The 8pm retreat

As it started getting dark, I decided on a whim that I needed to keep my body in shape and counter the debilitating effects of being at the 1/4 mark of 8 exams, so I headed to my usual exercise area 100m away from my house and embarked on my routine of chin ups and parallel bar push-ups while having a delectable assortment of christmas carols piping into my ears from my new iphone 4s, which is my first smart phone. I must say that the experience was somehow very uniquely pleasant, especially when the december weather was at its characteristic best - the lingering smell of rain that has just stopped couple of hours ago and a cool intermittent breeze tickling my damp skin. After my 40 min workout, I felt refreshed but ravenous, so I headed to the nearby indian coffee shop for some fish curry and rice and a teh-o keras, which was also unplanned. Again, my iphone was a source of entertainment as I waited for my food to arrive and read a rather interesting article explaining the reasons behind the Euro's impending collapse. This 1+ hour retreat felt great to break the monotony of an exam routine and I am thankful for having experienced it.

I was just thinking at the end of it all if this would become a more common occurrence once I start work - coming home late and heading for a workout and a late dinner. Minus the spontaneity, christmas carols and good weather of course, since the weather is unpleasantly warm most of the year and the christmas season lasts for a month or 2 at most.
